A player, who shall remain nameless for the time being, turned up at a game as a trialist, with a letter from the SDAFA releasing him from his previous team, and got a run on for the last five minutes of a game, when the result was already beyond doubt.
As it transpires, he signed for another club 3 weeks prior and did not divulge the information to anyone.
The club is now threatened with a 3 point deduction and the player walks away without punishment???
Is there any provision in the rules to protect the clubs in situations like that? Apart from the obvious......"Tough, you should have checked again!"

Beese10, having been caught in a somewhat similar situation (albeit without the letter) with a player who then vanished all I can say is to quote you "Tough, you should have checked again!" I know it's extremely annoying and frustrating but it's up to the admin of each club to make 100% sure. The only advice I can gibe (and I wish we had followed it earlier) is never believe a word you hear about registration until you personally check with your AFA registration official.
To quote a wise old administrator who haunts these boards "I'm not saying all players are lying bastards but you must treat them as such until you have proof otherwise"
As a fellow sufferer you do have my sympathy

Wasn't going to intervene on this one as Dreggin has more or less dealt with the query. But.........Dreggin'......you couldn't possibly be talking about me....I doubt I ever said that even though I agree with it 200%

And as for you XXXL.....its about time you showed some respect for your elders and betters.....you might be older some day yourself (with luck) though I doubt you'll ever get any better. And I don't do roll ups not even at parties, well no these days! LOL

Beese10....you've been just a wee bit unlucky. The release letter from the League only reflected that the guy had been released on a certain date. It obviously doesn't tell you what might have happened after that. Always phone your league and get them to check the player at the SFA. IF IN DOOBT CHECK IM OOT!
