Dirrans Athletic 2 – Glenmuir Thistle 0 (HT 0-0)
In contrast to the game last week, Dirrans huffed and puffed their way to a valuable 3 points.
The first 20 mins saw Glenmuir dominant with their experienced striker causing all sorts of problems for the home defence. Dirrans struggled to establish a pattern of play. Glenmuir should have gone ahead only to be denied by a terrific last ditch tackle by the Dirrans right back. The away side also had a decent handball/penalty claim denied midway through the half. Dirrans finally woke up and had a couple of decent efforts before the break, both times being denied by the big goalie, who was to prove both reliable and entertaining throughout the match. By half time, Dirrans had managed to get on top.
Dirrans missed a few chances in the second period with the wee striker, who wasn’t really on form, breaking the the deadlock with a bullet finish from about 4 inches after a defender headed onto his own woodwork. With 20 to go, Dirrans had a couple of escapes as the away team used set plays well. Again, another goal line clearance kept the clean sheet alive. With about 10 to go, a tired Glenmuir midfielder gifted a pass to the Dirrans’ sub on the left. He finished really well to make it 2. Glenmuir kept trying, putting plenty of crosses around the Dirrans goal.
Glenmuir will feel they should have had a point and certainly should have scored at least one goal. Dirrans, after the first quarter, had the luck on the day, played the better football in the second half but two gifts from the away team cost Glenmuir dear. First look at Glenmuir suggests they are still in with a shout for promotion. They have a cracking striker, good attitude and energy. Dirrans will have to win more tough games like this to go up. Still a very tight league.
M.O.M. Apart from the Glenmuir forward, the Dirrans' number 6 pulled his team through the second half. Not a game full of pretty football, but a great result right enough.

i dont really agree with you auldheid. i dont think the dirrans were really in any bother. i agree the glenmuir striker was good but he never had a shot at goal. it wasnt a great game but dirrans dug in and tried to play football.

I agree wi backofthenet bulkhead. What I saw of the game if the Dirrans had scored early on I think they would have scored more than two.Glenmuir are a stuffy side but they were not as fit as the Dirrans team. The Dirrans are goin to work like that in every game from now till the end of the season if they want to be sure of promotion as this division is going to go to the wire.

Must have been my old eyes and nerves that made the game closer than you both saw, men.
I won't be under-estimating Glenmuir in the return fixture, though.
;)

auldheid fair summery of the game i think.others dirrans glasses on?. glenmuir had just as much of the game as dirrans, no they didnt deserve to win but in the end it was 2 bad defensive errors that cost them. game could have went either way.1st goal glenmuir didnt pick up midfielder in the box for the free kick ,he had a free header which he played accross the box which led to the goal,he should have been picked up but glenmuir defence had switched off.2nd goal defender has an easy clearance to make but instead tries a fancy flick that doesn,t work & gifts the ball to dirrans attacker who couldnt miss.glenmuir had plenty of chances but in this game these didnt come off, sometimes had dirrans stuck in their on box with the ball getting cleared of the line on occasions also penalty denied.well done dirrans good game & good 3 pts for you
