Thorn will be massive favourites Im afraid guys. You don't get to the top of the SAFA without being decent. Im led to believe that the Daily result was a bit of a one off. Clark Drive couldn't get past them yesterday and we all know how decent the Drive are.

If the Dirrans can provide a fully fit squad tomorrow I fancy them to cause an upset against Thorn, even if they don't it's not a disaster as they are still in two other cups and challenging for the second division title. All the best tomorow .

Thorny boy, if you want know what the Dirrans are like I can tell you they have went from being a bunch of Sunday sluggers to a very competent outfit. At the beginning of the season I was their public enemy No1 for telling everyone how it was with them- they were getting pumped by fourth division outfits in the pre- season. They were fat, unfit and mince. But, in the space of just six months their new management team have completely transformed them into what they are now- good enough to hump Premier League West KIlbride 5-0 away and Premier League Galston 2-1 at home.
In fact they are nearly as good as Kilwinning's top club Woodwynd Waahooooooooooolves.
I would be a tad worried about tomorrows tie, as the Dirrans are still using print offs of my early season thoughts to inspire them.
Long may they get it right up me.

The two show parks are usually outstanding and up there with the best parks in ayrshire.

I was down playing fives there a couple of weeks back and the big show park wasnt looking as good as it usually is. But Big Sid says Killie have been using it so that explains that.

Box to box ....just for you.
Athletico Dirrans 3 Thorn 1
Woodwynd Waahooooooooooooolves 9 Kilmarnock 6
Dregs AFC v Coylton 1/10 on to be abandoned due to the legendary Colin Creach officiating.

While I'm on again, Thorny boy, I may well be making a rare appearance tomorrow, so if you want to meet up for a chat in the sports club canteen for an education on amateur fitba, we can do so over an oxo cube and a hawf cooked roll and slice. Just say to the wee woman at the counter....it's a rare red dawn that rises ower Redstone Road, and she'll know yer looking for Sid the toon spy.
Backroadbus .....goes that way mate!

Is Hughie Wallace no a well known Dirrans Legend lads.I remember him as one of the Dirrans most successful managers 3 consecutive promotions with a side that he had to take on from scratch when no one else would.Well done Hughie, hope to see you make an appearance tomorrow.

Were Dirrans not promoted on at least two occasions due to league restructuring, and not because they were slightly better than mid table material.

Big sid, box2box will like your prediction about the Dregs game being abandoned. He's partial to a wee abandonement!

To avoid any confusion in the Pennyburn pie shop today- Under Shug the Dirrans finished second in the 4th and 3rd Divisions behind Dunlop. They then finished in a mid table 3rd place in the 2nd Division the following season but as a result of a mass evacuation of clubs from the Premier league we were awarded promotion to the 1st Division.

I hope you're spot on with your Dirrans prediction today Sid!

Dirrans Athletic 0 – Thorn Athletic 1. (HT 0-1)

What a day for a game! Hail, wind and the mud spoiled both teams’ efforts to entertain the hardy crowd.
There was little to report in the opening 15 minutes beyond the hailstorm ripping the goalposts dangerously out of the ground. Soon after, Dirrans had the first meaningful attempt ...at an attempt on goal with late midfield runners coming close getting onto a cross from the left. Thorn really should have scored on 25 minutes when a looping effort hit the post and fell into the goalie’s hands. The ref then awarded a series of soft fouls against Dirrans in the left back area. On 28 mins one of these free kicks, 20 yards from goal, resulted in the dreaded “corridor of uncertainty” cliché with everyone waiting for someone to hit it. The ball nestled inside the goalie’s right hand post. 1 nil. The rest of the half saw Dirrans struggle to use the freezing gale at their backs. Thorn, too, failed to set up any real chances.
The second half was reminiscent of the recent Kilbirnie game: same pitch, same decent possession by a good away side. However, Dirrans should have scored about 10 mins into the half when a promising breakaway ended with the wee striker (who had so few chances to touch the ball today that his form wasn’t to be an issue) playing a great cross to his buddy at the back post. However, the best chance of the game was squandered and the target missed. Dirrans then struggled to get the ball out of their half and some patient Thorn play resulted in them controlling much of the action in front of the Dirrans’ defence without looking like scoring. A decent Thorn corner looked to have been missed by absolutely everyone and resulted, unusually, in...another corner. Only real action of note near the end was an excellent free kick across the Dirrans’ goal from 20 yards with again no one putting a toe near it. Neither keeper had much to do in the game, to be honest.
Fair play to Thorn, they didn’t get a chance to show their skills on the mud bath (the big show park was put off by a ref earlier in the day after heavy rain - it looked fine around game time), but they did enough on the day to win. No disgrace to Dirrans who struggled to play in their usual style and they could have snatched an equaliser in the second half.
Pick of the away side was their number 11 (a smashing player). Dirrans’ number 8, again, showed composure and skill in wicked conditions. Best of luck to Thorn who seemed a decent, well run outfit who look like they can go and win something this season.

Auldhead, yer report is bang on.Thorn look a good side and conditions didn't do them justice but I thought the Dirrans gave a very good account of themselves and it mite have been different if the showpark had been available today. The big Dirrans no 5 for Mr today held the back 4 together wen under pressure. All the best to Thorn for the rest of the tournament.

Aye, he had a good performance.
Dirrans competed really well. Played a good side and did themselves proud. Looking forward to the next game already.
