Our goalkeeper tried to play a quick goal-kick,but sliced the ball out for a corner .Ref made him take it again. That started me thinking what if he put it into the net, would it be a goal or would he get to retake it :?: :?:

Hopefully bring a bit of clarity here??

I think what happened was the goalie kicked it but the ball did NOT leave the penalty area.
If it did not then the game has not restarted because at a goal kick the ball is only in play once it has left the penalty area.
Therefore if the goalie kicked/sliced it and the ball does NOT leave the penalty area it's a retake - pure and simple.

Now bear with me on the 2nd part
If the goalie kicks the ball and it leaves the penalty area and a strong wind blows it back into the goals then it is a corner kick. That's because a goal kick is an indirect set piece and thus a goal cannot be awarded for a straight kick into the goals.
If he took a goal kick and plopped it straight into the opponents goal it's a goal kick to the opposition.

Hope that's clear???

Makes perfect sense Mister Magoo... I love these 'quirky' and often overlooked rules, I wouldn't have realised that (in part2) a goal wouldn't have stood! Lol

The last paragraph is wrong .
The taker of a goal kick can score against his opponents
