Every year in every Ref's exam the 'substitution procedure' is included in the exam.
I'm not sure what the guy has done - time wasting, dissent, taking his shirt off to get his 2nd caution but the ref was quite right.
That's why in all the senior games you see the 4th official holding onto the sub until the subbed player crosses the halfway line. That's because he can be sent off and the team down to 10 men until the process has been completed.

It was bizarre though.

I have to say that it's decisions like this that give refs a bad name. The player is clearly being substituted and the game is actually stopped at the time, he isn't celebrating in the face of opposition fans, he isn't displaying offensive comments on his undergarment, he is simply walking off (with his face tripping him). I understand why the direction was given to refs about the removal of shirts etc but have to say the ref in this instance could really have used common sense.

Wilson - Common Sense is the buzz word.......

Its was good to see mid week that the Referee in the Doncaster game did not book Billy Sharp when he removed his top....

I've just noticed this after posting on the Sunday Central forum. Unwritten rule No 18...Common sense.
As a new ref I got this rattled down my throat at referee training.
Today I had one of my players red carded for wearing black undershorts beneath our white shorts which go down to your knees completely covering the undershorts. The ref asked one of the opposition players to take his cycling shorts off during the second half and apparently booked him for having them on in the first place. Ten minutes later the opposition sidelines noticed our player had cycling shorts on too and shouted this to the ref. Our player then sent off for it which will result in club fine/player suspension etc when common sense should have come into play. PS At no point before the game did the referee advise the players from both sides he would be strict on this and not allow this during the game despite him saying this to both teams AFTER the game that he did say this. No wonder refs get a bad reputation at times and before anyone says so I know it is a rule that undergarments should be the same colour as shorts/top but most Sunday players will not think twice about it and to be carded LATE on in the game for it is poor.

That does sound pretty harsh Burst Baloon, although the referee was technically correct I think it's quite a poor call.

Was there a kit inspection carried out before the game? I find some amateur teams get annoyed when they're told the ref would like to check boots and for jewlerry and/or under garments etc as a lot of refs just don't bother but if every referee carried out this inspection, which is included within the Laws of the Game, then situations like th eone above shouldn't occur.

I may be slated for this but unless I had a supervisor or Minor Grades out in an amateur game I'd generally allow any colour of under armour as let's rememebr we are playing amateur football in Scotland and it's freezing cold. Where's the sense in guys missing days at work with the flu or cold etc because their clothes are the wrong colour?

Then it's time for the Sinbin Show: 90 fun packed minutes filled with wise cracks and howlers (mostly howlers) the last hour of which is conducted predominately from within the confines of the centre circle but interspersed with the odd sojourn for a free kick or corner usually awarded from a considerable distance away. Great stuff!

I generally just inspect the boots and tell the boys to remove jewellery before kick off and wish them good luck, i find teams already know what they can and cant do so i just dont say much and keep it simple. When i played amateur some refs used to come in and give a big schoolteacher finger waving speel and some of the boys would take an instant dislike to him .......doesnt help come kick off.

biggest problem i find is players/officials/supporters dont know the rules and will argue black is white based on their out of date knowledge.......had one yesterday shouting "he canny be affside he didnt touch the baw"............i hear that a lot.

Ive made the switch from playing ams to reffing, its a difficult job and a lot tougher and harder to call decisions/offsides than it looks from the sidelines.

Likewise J4_1
My first season reffing after playing and running amateur sides for 20 years. Enjoy it though but some players do ur heid in.
And to all the ref's I shouted abuse to for 20 years...I'm sorry. I know the rules now and most of the time u were right!! Except Sinbin, he's always wrong lol.

Do Strathclyde Sat Morning afl and Greater Glasgow afl in the afternoons.
Played and helped run Mearns afc for 20 years but due to work commitments can't be there for every game or training anymore so decided to take up reffing as I genuinely just love being involved in amateur football. Keep my sundays for running my Queens Park Spiders team.
I don't see the money but the wife enjoys spending it for me

Technically correct, but personally I wouldn't have cautioned that, if it WAS for removing his shirt. However, we don't actually know why the caution was given .... had the player previously been warned for delaying the restart of play, or other offences, (maybe more than once)?
