Trying to get a player unregistered from a team in GGAFL so he can play for us tomorrow. His manager has told him he needs to fill out a form to unregister. I have never heard of this. Has anyone else?

Is it not the case now that if the manager of a team contacts his registration secretary he can get this done in a matter of minutes. Thats how I understand it.

My understanding is the same as yours. I believe the registration system is now the same for all Scottish Amateur clubs. Last season we signed players immediately they were released from their previous clubs. Their secretary contacted the League Registration Secretary (CSAFL) and in our league this is acceptable by phone / text / e-mail. Thereafter we contacted the Registration Secretary to say we had signed the player, again this can be done by phone / text / e-mail and the original signed form was being sent by whatever method is agreed in your constitution (recorded delivery, 1st class post etc). I have to say our Registration Secretary is excellent ( Jim McKerley take a bow)

Wilson, it is definitely not the same in every league.....anyone caught up in it has to check the rules applying in the league concerned.

There is a slip which is supposed to be returned to the league to get a cancellation put through.....but some leagues will accept email notification. As it happens, I think the Greater Glasgow (which the original question was about I think) does accept email notification.

The procedure on getting players registered also varies. Some leagues accept email followed up by the form. Some dont accept email (Ayrshire for example will not register the player until we have the form)

I have dealt with Jim McKerely before on a registration matter and he sorted it quickly via e-mail. Very impressed.
GGPFL do have an "unregistration" form but after speaking to George Butler he was happy to sort it quickly via e-mail.
Appreciate the quick manner it was dealt with on the Friday before the 1st Saturday of the season.

It really does streamiline the process rather than running about on a Friday night getting the player to unsign, then hand deliver the form to whatever registration sec.

Overall, good outcome. The player played as trialist on Saturday and is now registered.

Thanks for your reply guys.

Guvnor.....I dont know all the "ins and outs" of Junior Registration but I would have thought if a player is registered as a Professional he would have a contract which could restrict his right to be released. My advice would be to contact either the Scottish Junior FA or the SFA Registration Department, both located at Hampden. Good luck!
