Not so long ago the rules were changed to prevent players playing in more than one game per day. I.e Saturday morning and Saturday afternoon. This is the third season since the change. I am just wondering if you all think it has helped the game, or not.

Should wee keep the rule, or go back to the way it was.

Thoughts?

If players give their all they shouldn,t be able to play another 90 mins ?
Also got to look at picking up strains and knocks when tired and also misstiming tackles etc
due to fatigue ? not even keen on lads playing sat and sun as not enough recovery time between games
then into training mon nite ! but hey ! thats just me ! lol

I agree, but isn't that a decision which should be reached between players and teams? Not something outlawed entirely

of course its down to the player. but the choice isnt even theirs. Surely if i wanted to play 2 games on a saturday it would be for me to decide and speak to my team(s) about. I know my afternoon team wouldnt allow it so i probably wouldnt do it. But at least the discussions could take place. As it is, the freedom to decide isnt there.

players should be able to be able to play whenever they want, the safa are actually stopping people from playing and the only thing i can see is they are stopping the people who want to play enjoying themselves and keeping themselves fit, we should be trying to encourage people to play football as much as possible.
ps. i couldnt play 2 games a day :)

Amateurs should be allowed to play twice on a Saturday and indeed twice on a Sunday - if they choose to do so .
Not a decision which should be made by the governing body .

Attempts were made to stop the rules being changed to prevent players being signed for two Saturday clubs at the same time (or two Sunday clubs). With no disrespect to anyone, I have to say it wasn't handled very well by those organising the attempt to stop the rule coming in. If the advice given at the time had been listened to it would at least have got to the clubs for a vote at the SAFA AGM. The way it was done resulted in it dying at the Scottish Council.
Having said all that, it still would not be an easy one to sort out. The SAFA had to persuade the SFA to allow players to register with both a Saturday and a Sunday club. I think they will be even less keen to agree to registration for two Saturday or two Sunday clubs. And just passing a Rules Amendment at the SAFA would then require SFA approval before it could be implemented.
And before somebody "jumps" on me, I'm not saying I agree with the current restriction. Just pointing out it might not be plain sailing trying to get rid of it!

Certainly dont disagree with your post at all Morris .
The Amateur Association and Constitution is in essence summed up within the first couple of paragraphs which talks about " fostering" and "developing " the game .Any restriction on participation is therefore in my opinion not in the spirit of our Association .
I can only think of a couple of reasons why SFA would have an issue with that - either
It is considered that the administration of such a system would cause problems with registrations etc or
They simply wish to protect us from ourselves with some sort of playing time regulation similar to the Working Time Regulation which limits the number of hours we are allowed to work in a week .It should be noted however that we can" opt out" of such a regulation in our working lives so why not in our leisure time .
Neither of the options above are acceptable to me . How many games a player chooses to play in a weekend should be entirely a question of choice .
I do not disagree that it would/will be difficult to change the existing arrangements though .

Agree with Wattie as well. Players should be able to play as much football as possible. I had a lad who played outfield Sat Morning league and in goals for us in the afternoon which he could easily handle. With the new rules he had to choose one or the other and chose to play with his pals on Sat morning. Great keeper lost to the Sat afternoon game!! Also some lads are happy to be part of a 'squad'. They might play in the morning and be happy to sit on bench or fill in when reqd in the afternoons (or vice versa) but again are denied this opportunity. If you look through the various leagues I know of plenty of sides who have folded recently due to lack of players. To deny them the chance to get players who can handle two games seems crazy.

What happens if a player is signed with two Saturday clubs and they are drawn against each other in a Scottish or District Cup tie? Who decides who the player plays for that day?

Is that not why the rule is written the way it is?

the player and his clubs would decide. if you represent 1 you cant represent the other, thats the way it works with teams that have a and b teams.
