Hi Guy,s
looking for guidance, got an ex-pro training with us to keep his fitness levels up whilst looking for another club,
could he play as a trialist for an amateur team ? or does he have to get clearance from the SFA ? cheers in anticipation, B

Hi there.

I am no expert however I would suggest you speak to your League Secretary to get some guidance or some sort of clearance before using this player as you may end up being punished if there is no clarification etc, better to be safe than sorry!

Quick phone call to Player Registrations at Hampden will clarify your query. Always go through them and they are very helpful.

I'm a bit late coming in on this one, must have have missed it earlier.

Don't disagree that a call to Hampden might be helpful but more important is a call to your league. Reason I say this is that the SFA don't know your league's rules. The rules on playing trialists vary from league to league (the National Registration system sets out that trialists are a matter to be determined locally). And if a club slips up it will be your league which clobbers you not the SFA. Within the SAFA the leagues are the registration authority not the SAFA and not the SFA.

Cheers Morris , spoke with Sandy Bryson at the SFA and it was rather complicated to say the least ! Basically as he last played dwn in England we would have to get international clearance from FA, we cud then sign him as amateur but he wud have to remain amateur til June 7th and if a pro club came in for him he cud not be reinstated as a pro until June ? As the lad has a few teams interested in him we didn't pursue. It as we wouldn't want to hamper the lads career . Thanks for advice Morris. Cheers
