Its everyones opinions guys and good valid points. However i would put those 2 results above mentioned as "upsets" no disrespect to those winning teams.

In a premier league over a season is where teams are measured against, thats where we look for the "top" teams (unless they have moved league) ie Finnart, Bannockburn etc........ Will be good to see Doune in the prem next year as by looking at there results do seem a very good team.

Think the 3 leagues have a very strong Premier and a "top" 3 or 4 teams but i stand by my 1-4 selection but apart from Central i would say not alot between other 3 leagues.

i wouldnt say harp beating thorn was an upset, a doing maybe.

TY123 -

No one says the game was a fluke, what i am saying is i wouldnt look into FRIENDLY results too much, its not the same game as one that would mean something, think you have missed the point am making in my above post.

you said the result was an upset, i just dont see why people can come on here and be little a league when they where well beaten in a friendly or not, any way i believe the central is the strongest the now but couldnt comment on other leagues as ive not seen enough teams in each league, what i would say is the caley hasnt covered its self in glory the past couple of years in the majors but im sure it has won the same or more than any other league outwith the central.

i only posted to stick up for the league as too many with little knowledge seem to know the league better than us that play in it.

Judging friendlies is entirely pointless. We took 11 players up to Harp last season and beat them 2-0. Does that place us miles ahead of Thorn? No. It counts for nothing. We beat Colville Park down there 2-1 at the start of the season. Bet none of you would claim we're better than them.

Well done to Dumbarton FP on bringing one of the Majors back to The Caley :D

Some good results in the majors this season for Caley teams against the other strong leagues, apart from Colville beating Giffnock, Westerlands in The West and Dumbarton in The Scottish.

Can't be that bad a league if doune won the East and Dumbarton beat the galacticos to win the West :-P

Congrats to Dumbarton and Doune. Great for the Caley to have two regional cup winners. Think this along with the 3 teams in the quarters and one in the semi of the Scottish proves the good standard of the league.

I think most people would agree that the overall standard of the SAFL and Calley has declined over the past 10 years. The SAFL has lost big teams like Glasgow Harp, St Pats, Pollok, Kilpatrick, Greenock HSFP, Gartcosh etc and there's no doubt this has weakened the league. I do agree that Aikenhead, Thorn and Finnart are all great teams and could cut it in any league in the country but compare the Premier divisions of the SAFL now to 4/5 years ago when Aikenhead were in Prem 1, Thorn in Prem 2 and you still had most of the other teams in the top division I think it's fair to say there was more strength in depth than now. The teams in the top half of the Premier and Finnart aside I don't think there's many teams you would expect to get anywhere near a major honour or at the very least it would be a big surprise.

As an outsider looking in it seems to me that most of the teams in the top division of the calley are capable of beating each other so maybe it's a bit more competitive than in previous years. That said if someone came onto the forum earlier in the season and said they expected Dumbarton Accies to win the West Cup I'm sure no-one would have agreed with that. It's some achievement.

I'd be equally surprised though if one of the current SAFL teams won a major though.
